Keurig K55 Review

The Keurig K55 is the bestselling single-serve coffee maker and one of the top-selling coffee makers overall. We took an in-depth look at this brewer to give you the run-down of what to expect.

Features

The K55 is a fairly basic single-serve coffee machine. This means that it doesn’t have a whole lot of bells and whistles, but it also means that it’s very easy to use. Here’s an overview of some of the primary features and functions:

  • 3 brewing sizes: 6, 8, and 10 ounces
  • 48-ounce water reservoir
  • Water filter handle and two filters
  • Auto-off after 2 hours
  • Dimensions: 13.3” H x 10.1” W x 13.2” D

Using the K55

Because of the simplicity of the K55 design, it’s easy to get brewing in no time at all. There are buttons for brew sizes and a start button, and that’s it. Once you turn the machine on, it takes about 4 minutes to heat up and be ready to brew.

On the machine, you’ll see indicator lights for when water needs to be refilled, when the water is heating, and when the Keurig needs to be descaled.  Descaling is a process of cleaning the machine and is an important function that keeps the Keurig functioning properly. The package includes step by step instructions for descaling — it’s a very simple process.

Who Should Buy the K55

There are several models of Keurig brewers, but this one consistently ranks highest and sells the best. Even so, there are definitely some coffee drinkers who will like it more than others.

More expensive Keurig models have many more features, such as adjustable brew strength and more brew size options, but overall the K55 functions as a solid mid-priced single serve brewer. However, one drawback of some of the expensive Keurigs is that they are limited to Keurig-brand pods only — their sensor prohibits the use of any pod that isn’t Keurig. This is a big frustration to those who want to try other brands or use the refillable filters.

The Keurig K55 will work for most coffee drinkers. If you want the ability to control temperature or brew strength, consider a different Keurig, otherwise the K55 is likely to be a great fit.
