Technivorm Moccamaster: Best Drip Coffee Maker for Coffee Snobs

As you probably guessed, a drip coffee maker that offers **the best** cup of coffee — good enough to satisfy even the haughtiest coffee snob — isn’t exactly inexpensive. However, it is an excellent investment for anyone looking for an amazing cup of coffee every day of the week.

The Technivorm Moccamaster is the best drip coffee maker for a premium cup of coffee. We reviewed this renowned brewer to see why.

Features

First, a note. We’re talking about the Technivorm Moccamaster KBG in this review, but there are a few other models in the Moccamaster line as well. The key differences between them have to do with carafe type (glass vs. thermo), brew basket type (auto or manual stop), and capacity.

Here are the specs of the KBG:

  • 14″ H x 12.75″ W x 6.50 ” D
  • 120V 1475W
  • Volume: 1.25 Liters / 40 Ounces / 10 Cups
  • Material: metal / plastic (BPA/BPS/BPF & Phthalate Free)
  • 5 year warranty

The hot plate has two temperature settings, so you can choose to hold your coffee at 175° or 185° F with a separate, independent element for even taste. The hot plate shuts off automatically after 100 minutes.

It brews a full carafe in 6 minutes at a consistent and optimum 196° – 205° F. It’s very easy to use and to clean.

Moccamasters are made in the Netherlands, and certified by the Specialty Coffee Associations of America and Europe. Simply put? These coffee makers are not just beloved by coffee drinkers, they are certified and awarded by some of the top coffee associations and awarders out there.

Design

The Moccamaster has a distinct, modern look that you’ll either love or hate. The KBG comes in numerous color options (up to 20), so you have plenty of opportunities to match your kitchen’s decor.

Just a few of the color options

This coffee maker is an auto-stop (which simply means it stops brewing if you remove the carafe) and it includes a brew basket that takes disposable filters as well as a glass carafe. It’s fairly large but looks great on the countertop.

The copper heating element is one of the most significant aspects of the internal design. This allows for precision in temperature, and fast, even heating.

Is It Worth the Price?

The Moccamaster is not an inexpensive coffee maker. However, because it crafts such excellent cups of coffee, it’s worth the cost for those who love good coffee. Not everyone can justify this price, but one way to consider overall cost is to look at it in terms of cost per cup. If you pay for cups of coffee at high-quality coffee shops, and if the Moccamaster helps  you reduce frequency with which you’re making those purchases, chances are you’ll see a good ROI pretty quickly.

You’ll see pretty quickly when you start researching this coffee maker that the vast majority of customers are extremely satisfied with their purchase. America’s Test Kitchen has called it the best automatic drip coffee maker.

There are some negative reviews that address issues with the design of the arm and some who don’t find that the flavor is worth the cost. Overwhelmingly, though, coffee lovers love the Moccamaster. You can check it out here

  1. What is the Price?

      Hi Randy,

Looks like Amazon has it for around $300 right now (https://amzn.to/2EnlvX5), and I think that’s about what it’s priced at in other physical and online stores. I’m not entirely sure if it goes on sale very often, but it would definitely be worth watching for!
